Metallic and Liquid Epoxy Marble Flooring
Metallic epoxy flooring is a hot new trend that is finding its way into the market as a high-tech and exotic-looking floor covering option. The metallic epoxies create a glossy and deep looking floor with a variety of different colours and visual effects. Some finishes will create a beautiful three-dimensional appearance that gives the illusion of craters, ripples, and swirling rivers of metallic-looking plasma. It can also be done in one single colour. At Sydney Epoxy Floors, we are a fan of simple floors. We believe “Less is more” however we are more than happy to create a finish to suit any taste. Here are a few examples of Marble Effect and Metallic Floor coating photos that were done by our team.
The prices start from $130.00 per SQM for jobs over 100 square meters in size and smaller jobs will attract higher fees depending on the surface condition and access and size of the area. | Move the white slider below to view our Metallic and Liquid Epoxy Marble Floor transformation! |
How are Metallic and Marble effect epoxy floors applied?
After completing the preparation stage, generally, a 1 mm COLOURED self-level epoxy primer will be applied to the floor to fill in any minor imperfections and provide a clean and defect-free surface. (A tiled floor will require an additional base coat to fill in the grout lines and once the primer has cured, it will be sanded back. Any minor defects will then be filled using epoxy fillers.)
The effect coat is made of 100% solids self-level epoxy resin with metallic pigments or a mix of metallic and liquid epoxy pigments together. This low VOC self-leveling epoxy coating is designed to be manipulated into creating different visual effects and the end result will depend on the applicator’s skill level and taste.
The final coat is made of a thin layer of Ultra-Premium Urethane coating applied by roller, but prior to applying this coat, the floor will have to be buffed and sanded back to assure all highpoints are removed.

Can Metallic and Liquid Epoxy Marble Coatings be applied on tiled surfaces?
Epoxy floor coating systems can be applied over concrete and tiled floors without having to remove the tiles. The best benefit of epoxy coating is that in most cases it won’t disturb the floor height and the doors and skirting boards will not need to be removed and trimmed at the bottom.
Made of 100% solids epoxy with metallic pigments added, this self-leveling epoxy coating is designed to be manipulated to create different visual effects. Once applied to the floor, various solvents such as denatured solvents can be used to diffuse and move around the metallic pigments in the epoxy. This is what can create the look of flowing rivers and spots of fractured-looking molten metal that sit upon the surface of the coating.
The metallic or marble design epoxy resin floors will provide many years of service but how they will look will highly depend on how well they have been taken care of, maintained and protected. The metallic finish will perform very similar to a high gloss polished timber floor and it won’t be suitable for high traffic areas. |
